Many coffee roasters use fluid-bed or drum roasters which have blue flame burners. This method uses dirty effluent gasses created in the combustion process as the roast air medium. Not only does this practice create a vast amount of noxious gasses, but it facilitates a crude production process with very little capability to manipulate the complex chemistry of coffee.
Redding Roasters uses an American-made Diedrich IR12. It uses a clean infrared burner and efficient after-burner which eliminates excess smoke and reduces our carbon footprint. The roaster has a 30 lb capacity and fully-manual controls. It has excellent heat distribution and variable airflow for maximum control over the roast which gives us the taste profiles we love!
